What To Expect At Your Washington DC In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

Before you choose what window covering to get, some companies, like Sunburst, recommend an in-home consultation. By bringing products to your home, we can show you how different window treatments would work in your room. You’ll find how easy it is to discover the best window treatment when you aren’t in the artificial surroundings of a showroom.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how will bringing samples to your home help you better choose the perfect window treatment? Even though every in-home consultation is individualized, there are some things that you should experience.

Walking Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Start by scheduling an appointment by contacting your local representative. If you already have a shutter or window treatment in mind, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make it a point to show you a variety of options related to your preferred choice. We will also offer other options, so you can know that your windows match your ideal.

During the actual appointment, we’ll sit down and figure out what you need in a window treatment. We’ll spefically ask about your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency needs, and we’ll ask about hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your rep will also want to know how the room is used and what style you are trying to acheive. And it’s alright if you don’t know exactly what you want, as we’ll explain all your options.

You may have to see many different samples to find out which coverings fit into your decor and protects your windows. Most customers need to explore a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or choosing the perfect stain to match the room. We’ll also find all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once a decision is made, we’ll get the exact measurements of your windows. We will typically measure the windows in every room in your home—even if you only need to buy window treatments for select rooms. We perform this service because a lot of our clients want to get additional products with just a phone call. At the end of the appointment, we will guide you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Bad In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are confident that Sunburst will perform compentent in-home consultation, there are some red flags you should never experience from any window treatment company. As they say, the quality of your sales representative usually equals the quality of the window treatments.

First, your consultant should be careful and professional. He or she should come to your house on time, with all samples requested, and offer to cover their shoes with shoe booties. Your representative should always give you product and company pamphlets and pricing information.

In regards to pricing, you should be given a full written quote. Don’t accept a vague guess, scrawled on a product brochure or the back of a business card. And never accept a quote without window measurement. You want to know how much the final bill will cost you. It’s also a good idea to to ask for references and online reviews.
